From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Philosophy of Money (1900; German: Philosophie des Geldes) is a book on economic sociology by German sociologist and social philosopher Georg Simmel. Considered to be the theorist's greatest work, Simmel's book views money as a structuring agent that helps people understand the totality of life.
The importance of Simmel's work is currently being marked in Germany by publication of a complete edition of his work. In this collection, also published as a special issue of Theory, Culture & Society (8:3), an international team of distinguished contributors reassesses Simmel's work and its relation to contemporary issues and problems in social theory.
